Quite often, summer basketball and other camps are too expensive for some parents to afford. Even though they may want to provide the best possible opportunities for their offspring, other priorities relegate camps to a low-priority status. With this in mind, The Champions Youth Developmental Basketball Camp (CYDBC) was launched at Petersburg High School (PHS) in Petersburg, VA during the summer of 2005. During this event, over 130 boys and girls (ages 9-13) received: a daily breakfast and lunch; expert instruction, motivational sessions, and life lessons conducted by a variety of collegiate and high school coaches, educators, players and administrators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders; a T-shirt; and a tote bag filled with school supplies.
